A Letter from Southern Heritage Air Foundation President Patty Mekus....

When it comes to history, there are so many stories to be told. Even a museum the size of the Smithsonian’s can’t hold all of the pieces that make up history. History defines us as a nation, because it is real and it happened.  Such events, no matter how great or how small are treasures.  Many of these treasures are tucked away in closets, packed up in boxes and even thrown away in the garbage.  When that happens, history and stories are then lost.

The Southern Heritage Air Foundation is known for hosting, “The Biggest Little Air Show”, and although we use the term” little”, it’s used quite humbly. You will find that out quickly, when you visit our museum and you hear stories of local and regional people who are some of the biggest WWII heroes, along with innovators in aviation.  It’s wonderful that we are able to offer a place for their stories of courage, sacrifice, love of country, love of family, and love of God. You walk out of the museum in awe of the men and women you have just learned about, and you walk into a room of… I guess there is no other word except, AWESOMENESS!  A room full of the most desired Warbird and Vintage airplanes.  Planes that you can still take to the skies!  You may have even seen or ridden in one of them at the many fly-overs we do or the other airshows we participate in.

We have been told that people didn’t know about our place, and that we must be one of the best kept secrets around, so we are working hard to let that secret out!  Come by and tour the museum, plan a school field trip, book a plane ride or fly-over, attend one of our hosted events, or rent our facilities for an event of your own.

We invite you to browse through our Facebook page and website to learn about the many programs that the Southern Heritage Air Foundation supports, such as our most recent one, The Warrior Bonfire Project.  SHAF is a 501 ( c ) 3 non-profit and runs purely on museum admissions, grants, plane ride sales and the generosity of those who believe in our mission, and consider us good stewards of their gifts. There are many organizations worthy of your donation and we hope that you will find us to be one of them.

A special thank you is extended to the Vicksburg-Tallulah Regional Airport Board, The City of Vicksburg, The City of Tallulah, The Warren County Board of Supervisors and the Madison Parish Police Jury for their continued support.

On behalf of the Southern Heritage Air Foundation Board, may God continue to bless our great country and may He bless each one of you.

Looking forward to meeting you soon!

Patty Mekus, President
