The Southern Heritage Air Foundation located at the Vicksburg- Tallulah Regional Airport has joined in on Operation Airdrop, a non-profit that organizes general aviation assets in the aftermath of a natural disaster.
“SHAF Board of Directors and Advisory Board Members have set in motion a collection of needed items for the North Carolina victims of Hurricane Helene. Items will be collected through Wednesday, October 9th, and SHAF’s Chairman Dan Fordice will fly the items to Concord Regional Airport in North Carolina on the 10th/11th.”
Several local businesses are set up as satellite drop off/collection sites. H & M Promotional Products donated collection site signs, and Arrow Printers has donated copied lists of items needed. “Using a general aviation aircraft for carrying loads means that there are weight limits, so there are items that we cannot transport. Many of the items we cannot transport are being delivered through ground transportation”, said Dan Fordice.
“Examples of items that cannot be transported are cases of water, and large bags of animal feed. Smaller bags of dog & cat food are transportable and easier to distribute. Think about sending items that you typically take for granted.”, said Mekus.
The Main Drop-Off Locations are the Southern Heritage Air Foundation and the Vicksburg-Tallulah Regional Airport, Exit 182 off of I-20 (Mound, LA Exit). (Attached please find a list of the satellite drop off sites and items needed.)
Alderman Alex Monsour added, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the people affected by Hurricane Helene. On behalf of the Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Vicksburg, we are supporting the Southern Heritage Air Foundation and the Community efforts by providing a central location, The Central Fire Station, for anyone who wants to drop off items on the needs list.”
Satellite Drop off/Collection Sites are: Arrow Printers, Ameristar Casino, Blackburn Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge, Central Fire Station, Delta Bank Vicksburg, Delta Bank Tallulah, Overdrive Nutrition, RiverHills Bank Frontage Road Branch, Riverwalk Casino, Robyn Lea State Farm, St. Francis Elementary School, Split Ends, The Radio People and the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.
For those that would like to send a monetary donation, you can donate to us online and in the notes write Operation Airdrop North Carolina, mail a check to us writing that in the for section, send cash with a note and letting us know your name, address or email address.
We will write one check to Operation Airdrop to be delivered with the items and include a letter of who the donors are.

Together, we can do more than we can do alone. Whether you decide to give us a visit or join our volunteers, or hopefully both; sharing the history that is preserved in our small Aviation Museum and the stories of our local and regional heroes, together we can preserve history.
Our museum is run by committed volunteers that give tours, help host our events, set up displays, clean aircraft,
